📖 History and Significance:
After the fall of the Russian Empire, the Ukrainian People’s Republic (UNR) declared independence and in 1918 issued its own national currency, the hryvnia. The 100 hryven note of 1918, designed by the artist Heorhiy Narbut, became an icon of Ukraine’s brief struggle for statehood during the revolution of 1917–1921. In 2018 the National Bank of Ukraine issued this souvenir “non-payment” banknote to mark 100 years since the first hryvnia notes, as part of its programme commemorating the events of the Ukrainian Revolution. Only 100,000 pieces were produced, and the note carries the inscription “До подій Української революції 1917–1921” (to the events of the Ukrainian Revolution 1917–1921).

🎨 Design Details:
The obverse reproduces the original 1918 design: a great wreath of flowers, fruit, vegetables and wheat around the words “СТО ГРИВЕНЬ”, flanked by a peasant woman in Ukrainian dress holding a sheaf of wheat and a sickle, and a worker with a hammer. A modern panel adds “Україна”, the trident and a large “100 років” (100 years) with the year 2018. The reverse shows the blue-grey back of the 1918 note with its ornamental cartouche, columns and the trident in a laurel wreath, with the anniversary text and a serial number.
