About Malta banknotes

Malta used sterling-linked pound notes issued by the Government of Malta, including the 1939 issues. The Central Bank of Malta was founded in 1968 and introduced the Maltese pound, renamed the lira in 1983. Malta adopted the euro on 1 January 2008, at 0.4293 lira per euro.
