About Cyprus banknotes
Cyprus became independent in 1960 and the Central Bank of Cyprus began issuing notes in 1963. The Cypriot pound was divided into 1,000 mils until 1983 and then into 100 cents. Cyprus joined the euro on 1 January 2008 at 0.585274 pounds per euro, so these notes are now collector's items.
