About United States of America banknotes
The modern US dollar note dates from the Federal Reserve Act of 1913. Before the 1960s, Silver Certificates with blue seals could be exchanged for silver. During and after the Second World War, US troops abroad used Military Payment Certificates instead of dollars. Star notes replace faulty notes in a print run and are collected separately.
