About Mozambique banknotes

Under Portuguese rule Mozambique's notes were issued by the Banco Nacional Ultramarino. After independence in 1975 the new Banco de Moçambique overprinted these escudo notes in 1976, then introduced the metical in 1980. Inflation led to a new metical in 2006 at 1,000 to one.
