📖 History and Significance:
War broke out in Sudan in April 2023 between the Sudanese Armed Forces and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF), and the Central Bank of Sudan relocated from Khartoum to Port Sudan. In December 2024 it began replacing the old 500 and 1000 pound notes with a redesigned 1000 pound note, partly to neutralise huge amounts of cash looted from banks during the fighting; the exchange was largely limited to army-held areas, which the RSF rejected. In 2025 it followed with a new 500 pound note and the first-ever 2000 pound note, the largest value in Sudanese history, reflecting the rapid fall of the pound. Few of these notes have reached collectors abroad, which is why they score highly on Numista’s rarity index.

🎨 Design Details:
500 Pounds (blue-violet): the Republican Palace in Khartoum, the colossal statue of Tabo and a ram statue, with the gate of old Suakin; back – the Al-Mogran confluence where the Blue and White Nile meet in Khartoum. 1000 Pounds (brown-gold): grain silos and a cargo ship at port; back – the Central Bank of Sudan headquarters tower. 2000 Pounds (green-yellow): a camel, cattle, sheep and goats with cotton bolls and a secretary bird with colour-shifting ink; back – the Roman Kiosk at Naqa, a 1st-century AD Meroitic temple.
