📖 History and Significance:
Issued by the Bank of Japan (Nippon Ginko) before and during World War II, this set captures a nation in the midst of massive historical shifts. As the war progressed and metal shortages became severe, the Japanese government was forced to replace silver and bronze coins with these small-denomination fractional paper notes (Sen). The 100 Yen note represents the higher-end currency of the era, circulating through the end of the war and into the beginning of the Allied occupation.
