🔎 Key Features & Highlights

📜 Historic Deutsche Mark Currency

Before the introduction of the euro, the Deutsche Mark (DM) was Germany’s proud national currency. This 5 DM note represents everyday purchasing power from the late 20th century and is a tangible piece of post-war economic history.

💵 Crisp Uncirculated Condition (UNC)

This example remains uncirculated, with bright colors, sharp printing, and strong original texture, ideal for collectors who value quality that rivals freshly printed notes.

🔢 Consecutive Serial Numbers

The consecutive serial numbers make this piece especially appealing for collectors who seek matched pairs or sets, adding both visual coherence and premium collectible appeal.

🎨 Classic Design & Iconic Imagery

  • Obverse: Features the elegant reproduction of the “Young Venetian Woman,” originally painted by Albrecht Dürer in 1505, a timeless artistic detail that gives the note its unique character.
  • Reverse: Shows a detailed oak branch with leaves and acorns, symbolizing strength and endurance, a beautiful motif rooted in German heritage.
  • Watermark: The subtle portrait watermark, mirroring the main design, enhances both security and aesthetic quality, a valued feature among banknote collectors.

🧠 Interesting Facts

Part of a Classic Series:

The P-30b design was issued in the final years of the classic 1970-1980 series of West German banknotes, making it a sought-after example of currency just before major design changes.

Art Meets Currency:

The note’s artwork, based on a famous painting by legendary German Renaissance artist Albrecht Dürer, blends fine art with everyday money, making it attractive well beyond numismatics.

Collector Favorite:

While 5 DM notes were common in circulation, uncirculated examples with consecutive numbers are considerably rarer, offering collectors something unique to display or trade.

CONDITION GUIDE

Gem Uncirculated

A note that is flawless, with the same freshness, crispness and bright color as when first printed. It
must be perfectly centered, with full margins, and free of any marks, blemishes or traces of handling.

About Uncirculated

A bright, crisp note that appears new but upon close examination shows a trace of very light use, such as  a corner fold or faint crease. 'About Uncirculated' is a borderline condition, applied to a note which may not be quite uncirculated, but yet is obviously better than an average Extra Fine note. Such notes command a price only slightly below a new note and are highly desirable.

Extra Fine

A note that shows some faint evidence of circulation, although it will still be bright and retain nearly full crispness. It may have two or three minor folds or creases but no tears or stains and no discolorations.

Very Fine

A note that has been in circulation, but not actively or for long. It still retains some crispness and is still choice enough in its condition to be altogether desirable. It may show folds or creases, or some light smudges from the hands of a past generation. Sometimes, Very Fine notes are the best available in certain rare issues, and they should accordingly be cherished just as much as uncirculated notes.

Fine

A fine note shows evidence of much more circulation, has lost its crispness and very fine detail, and creases are more pronounced, although the note is still not seriously soiled or stained.
