Back home he ran the engineering firm Forges Tardieu, served as Minister of Commerce and Industry from 1962 to 1966 and attended the 1965 Lancaster House conference on Mauritian independence. He has been on the 50 rupee note since 1998. This paper series was printed by De La Rue and dated 1999 to 2009; the 2001 printing is Pick 50b. In 2013 Mauritius replaced the paper 50 with a polymer note, which makes this one of the last paper designs.

🎨 Design Details:
Front: portrait of Maurice Paturau, the coat of arms of Mauritius, the old Bank of Mauritius building and Lady Justice with sword and scales; text in English, Tamil and Hindi.
