The 1000 Drachmai of October 1941 belongs to the first wave of this “occupation inflation” series. Within three years prices exploded: by late 1944 monthly inflation reached about 13,800%, notes ran into the billions of drachmai, and the old drachma was finally replaced at a rate of 50 billion to one.
